Son 43 años en la historia de Florentina, panadería y pastelería. Hoy, 30 de agosto, festejamos su aniversario. Este local, cuenta la historia de muchas familias que migran y encuentran en el alimento una forma de subsistencia; una mujer —siempre una mujer—, una madre que hace del oficio su existencia, su manera de cuido: de cuidar a sus hijos, a sus nietos. Un padre que recita poesía, que se fue y que ya no está, mientras susurra versos en quechua.
Gabriela Flores del Pozo es artista, microempresaria y panadera; junto a su hermana administran y sostienen el aguante de Florentina. Este festejo es también un tránsito en la vida de Gabriela: un volver a la esencia, a la posibilidad del juego, tan vital en la vida del artista.
Daniel Tremolada, artista, yo, Jenny Díaz Muñoz, curadora, su hermana Carmen y Jaimito Damacén, maestro panadero, somos cómplices de este encuentro; Daniel y Jaimito comparten su saber hacer alimento, crean cuerpos alimentos, hornean este ser/monstruo, banquete y sacrificio. Esta noche, juntxs, invocamos a les dioses y seres invisibles del maíz, el trigo y el centeno como celebración de la vida. Bienvenidees.

Forty-three years mark the history of Florentina, a bakery and pastry shop. Today, August 30th, we celebrate its anniversary. This place holds the stories of many families who migrate and find in food a means of survival; a woman—always a woman—a mother who turns her craft into her very existence, into a form of care: caring for her children and her grandchildren. A father who recites poetry, who has left and is no longer here, yet still whispers verses in Quechua.
Gabriela Flores del Pozo is an artist, business owner, and baker; together with her sister, she manages and sustains Florentina through resilience and perseverance. This celebration is also a transition in Gabriela’s life: a return to essence, to the possibility of play, so vital in the life of an artist.
Daniel Tremolada, an artist; myself, Jenny Díaz Muñoz, curator; her sister Carmen; and Jaimito Damacén, master baker, are accomplices in this gathering. Daniel and Jaimito share their knowledge of turning matter into food; they create edible bodies, baking this being/monster—banquet and sacrifice. Tonight, together, we invoke the gods and invisible beings of corn, wheat, and rye in celebration of life. Welcome.
